“I first met with Dr. Berin in July 2014. She spent a lot of time with me and my partner to explain the process–processes (IUI, IVF, Donor, etc) in detail. It was a lot to take in all at once and overwhelming to sort through but she and the staff guided me through one step at a time always with positive and encouraging words. For some, all it takes is a consultation to figure out ovulation cycles and for some all it takes is one IUI cycle to get pregnant. But for others–like me–the journey wasn’t that easy. For starters, I did not follow the “traditional path” in life so getting pregnant was something I told myself would never happen. That changed when I met Dr. Berin and we discussed the options that were available to me.
I started this process later on in life than I think most women do, so already the odds of getting pregnant were not in my favor. I went through 2 unsuccessful IUI cycles and 2 IVF cycles (plus the many weeks of waiting to see if any of the treatments worked). The last IVF cycle resulted in a pregnancy but in the end, it wasn’t meant to be and I was back to square one. After much thought, my partner and I finally decided on using a donor–something I was very hesitant to do at the beginning. Thank God I changed my mind!
I am sharing the details of our story in hopes that it will give anyone thinking of starting this process some encouragement. My journey took just under 1 year (though it felt like much longer). I hope your journey to motherhood is a quick and healthy one. But if you run into some hiccups along the way, know that you are not alone. The road isn’t always straight forward and often comes complete with twists, turns, and bumps along the way. Like me, you may go home after some visits thinking “I will never get pregnant” but keep a positive attitude, stay focused and most importantly NEVER GIVE UP! We never gave up and in January 2016, we welcomed 2 beautiful baby girls into our lives.
If you are reading this trying to decide whether to visit FINJ, please do yourself a favor and don’t think about it anymore–make the appointment. The support you will receive here is unlike anywhere else. The doctors and staff are really in this with you and you always feel like someone is in your corner. I can’t express in words how beneficial it was having the support of everyone in the office.
We will be forever grateful to Dr. Berin (and staff) for guiding us through this and for all of the support along the way.”
